Empowering the Next Generation of Diverse GI Leaders

As the U.S. population becomes increasingly diverse, so must our healthcare workforce. A growing body of research highlights how a diverse medical community improves patient satisfaction, enhances adherence to care, and leads to more equitable health outcomes.

Yet, significant disparities persist for physicians from underrepresented in medicine (URiM) backgrounds including those who identify as LGBTQ+ and in career advancement, leadership roles, academic promotion, and overall job satisfaction.

ASGE is committed to changing that narrative.

The Elevate Leadership Retreat is a transformative weekend experience tailored to early-career GI physicians (1–5 years post-fellowship)* from URiM backgrounds. Through learning, coaching, and relationship-building, this retreat equips participants with the tools and confidence to thrive in gastroenterology and lead with impact.

Nomination Process

Up to 15 exceptional early-career URiM physicians will be selected to participate in the 2025 Elevate Leadership Retreat. Candidates may be nominated by ASGE members or self-nominated. We are seeking individuals with a strong desire to grow, lead, and shape the future of GI.

*GI physician members from URiM backgrounds who have completed or will complete a general GI fellowship (between June 2021 and June 2025 for the 2025 retreat year) and not enrolled in subspecialty GI training (such as IBD, motility, advanced endoscopy, or transplant hepatology) at the time of the retreat.

Multiple nominations are welcome, though we ask nominators to indicate preference if applicable.
